Configuring and Monitoring Links and Paths 6-1
Chapter 6
Path Management
This chapter discusses how to use the LA-110 Module Descriptor to configure links
and paths, to connect ports of LA-110 devices.
Path management is an easy and quick method to acquire end-to-end connectivity
between two given endpoints.
A link can be created between two equipment ports in the network. An LA-110
endpoint can be linked to another 5620 managed endpoint with the same
features.
A path can be created between any of the other three modules of the LA-110 to
another managed endpoint in the 5620 SNMP map. The path endpoints do not
have to be from the same type. For example, one path endpoint can be ATM and
the other can be LAN.
Path management includes the following tasks:
Configuring and Monitoring Links and Paths
Configuring and Monitoring ATM VCC Paths.
6.1 Configuring and Monitoring Links and Paths
LA-110 MD allows you to configure and monitor new Links and new Paths at the
network level.
A Link is a physical connection between two devices, whereas a Path is a logical
connection between two ports. Before you can create a path, you must first create
a link.
LA-110 allows you to create links between SHDSL ports.
Configuring SHDSL Links
You can configure a link between two SHDSL ports of ATM modules. To create a
link between SHDSL ports of two LA-110s, you need to connect the SDHSL ports
to a central SDHSL DSLAM. You cannot create a direct link between SHDSL ports
of different LA-110 devices.
To configure a full link between two SHDSL ports:
1. Right-click on the Entire Network map (without selecting any objects), and
from the shortcut menu, select Create > Physical Links > Full.
