Smooth
The Smooth function lets you smooth out rough transitions in your
waveform. This is done mathematically by multiplying waveform data
points by the non-linear portion of a cubic function.
The Smooth operation is done on segments of the waveform bound
by the WaveCAD “anchors”. Anchor operation is described later in
this chapter. Place the anchors to the left and right of the waveform
segment and select the Smooth command. The waveform changes
its shape immediately to follow the mathematical pattern of a para-
bolic curve.
Note that small segments with fast transitions, when combined with
parabolic expressions tend to generate even larger transitions.
Therefore, be sure to omit such sections of the waveform when you
use this operation.

The Smooth mode may also be invoked using the corre-
sponding toolbar icon.
Filter
The Filter function uses a moving average filter. This is done by re-
calculating each point as an average of a symmetrical number of
adjacent points. When you select the Filter command, a dialog box
pops up, letting you program the filter spacing in units of adjacent
points to average. You may filter the entire waveform or chose to fil-
ter a section of the waveform by using the WaveCAD anchors as
boundaries to the left and right.
NOTE
The Filter mode may also be invoked using the corre-
sponding toolbar icon.
Invert
The Invert function lets you invert the entire waveforms, or marked
segments of waveforms. The waveform is inverted about the 0-point
axis.

The Invert mode may also be invoked using the corre-
