Safety Products That Can Help Increase Welding Performance
Now welders can see their work at comfortable light levels, with eye and face
protection. Speedglas
Auto-Darkening Filters from 3M turn dark the moment an
arc is struck and return to light state (shade 3) again when welding stops, while
maintaining UV/IR protection.
Auto-darkening helps to eliminate the neck-strain of “helmet nodding” while helping
increase the accuracy of electrode placement.
This, in turn, helps reduce the need for grinding and rework. In addition, welders
can get into tight, cramped spaces and have a clear view, making extremely awkward welds a lot easier and safer.
Important: Welding can create a variety of harmful fumes and gases. When engineering controls are impractical, respirators
may be required to help reduce exposures to these airborne welding contaminants.
Speedglas
Brand A
• Sealed button membrane protects digital controls. Analog controls are fragile and prone to moisture and
particle infiltration.
Custom, multi-function programmed logic chip
minimizes components and increases reliability.
Excessive wiring and circuitry components increase the
potential for signal interference and connection failure.
• Silicone coating protects critical components. Spray coated or unprotected circuit board components
are vulnerable to contamination.
Brand B
Sensors mounted on circuit board minimize
electromagnetic noise interference from LC,
increasing low amp arc detection capability.
Basic electronics may have difficulty detecting certain
arc welding processes.
Filter elements are bonded with optical adhesive for
minimum distortion and maximum strength.
Un-bonded filter elements reduce optical clarity and
are less durable.
Large side margins increase durability and help
protect filter elements.
Standard 4.5" × 5.25" format leaves little room on
sides to protect glass filter from impact or twisting.
• Replaceable batteries in all models.
• Sealed button membrane protects digital controls.
Non-replaceable batteries eventually go dead and the
lens becomes non-functional.
UV/IR Protection
This component of the filter assembly
provides the same UV/IR protection as
a traditional shade 13 filter plate
(as regulated by USA and Canadian
welding safety standards).
Note: Because faceshields and welding helmets can be raised
from the normal position, ANSI Z87.1-2003 states that safety
glasses must be used in conjunction with these helmets.

Welding Helmets That “Breathe”
The revolutionary Speedglas
Helmet
9000 from 3M features patented
aerodynamic exhaust vents that help
to enhance the flow of exhaled air.
Note: Exhaust vents are not available on the 3M
Speedglas
Utility Filter and Helmet model.
