TO TURN OFF GAS TO THE APPLIANCE
1. From the ON position, turn control knob clockwise
to the PILOT position. The log set will
extinguish and the ODS pilot will remain lit.
2. If complete shutdown is desired, from the PILOT
position, push in the control knob slightly and turn
clockwise
to the OFF position. Do not force
the knob.
LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR MANUAL GAS VALVE
1. STOP! Read the safety information above.
2. Push in the gas control knob slightly and turn
clockwise
to OFF.
Note: The knob cannot be turned from PILOT to OFF
unless the knob is pushed in slightly. Do not force.
3. Wait fi ve (5) minutes to clear out any gas. Then
smell for gas including near the fl oor. If you smell
gas, STOP! Follow ‘B’ in the safety information
above. If you don’t smell gas, go to the next step.
4. The ODS pilot is located under the burner.
5. Turn the knob on the gas control counterclockwise
to PILOT.
6. Push in on the control knob all the way and hold in.
Immediately light the ODS pilot or press in ignitor
button to light the ODS pilot. Continue to hold the
control knob in for approximately one (1) minute
after the ODS pilot is lit. Release knob and it will
pop back out. The ODS pilot should remain lit. If
it goes out, repeat steps 3 through 6.
• If knob does not pop up when released, stop
and immediately call the service technician or
gas supplier.
• If the ODS pilot will not stay lit after several
tries, follow the instructions TO TURN OFF
GAS TO APPLIANCE and call the service
technician or gas supplier.
7. Turn the gas control knob counterclockwise
to ON to light the set.
8. Periodically check the ODS pilot fl ame for proper
fl ame pattern. Reference the section CHECKING
THE ODS PILOT FLAME APPEARANCE.

gas log set has an ODS pilot
which must be lit by hand. When lighting the ODS pilot,
follow these instructions exactly.
A. BEFORE LIGHTING, smell all around the gas
log set area for gas. Be sure to smell next to the
fl oor because some gas is heavier than air and
will settle on the fl oor.
B. WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS
• Open a window do not try to light the
appliance.
• Do not touch any electrical switch, do not use
any phone in the building.
• Immediately call the gas supplier from a
neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s
instructions.
• If you cannot reach the gas supplier, call the fi re
department.
C. Use only your hand to push in or turn the gas control
knob. Never use tools. If the knob will not push in or
turn by hand, don’t try to repair it. Call a qualifi ed
professional service technician. Force or attempted
repair may result in fi re or explosion.
D. Do not use the gas log set if any part has
been underwater. Immediately call a qualified
professional service technician to inspect the gas
log set and to replace any part of the control system
and any gas control which has been underwater.
