open the chapter in which Index has to be built. You generate the index using
the Build Index dialog box (Utilities menu) with the ‘Entire Book’ option checked.
Lists for books
In QuarkXPress, a list is a compilation of text that is styled with specific
paragraph style sheets. For example, you can take all the text in your “Chapter
Name” style sheet and all the text in your “Section Head” style sheet and
compile a table of contents with two levels. Lists are not limited to tables of
contents — for example, you can create a list of illustrations from the style
sheets used on captions. Generating lists involves the Lists dialog box (Edit
menu) and the Lists palette (View menu).
Book Enhancements
Enhanced Table of Contents (TOC) in Book
QuarkXPress added an enhancement in TOC referrals which will now function
across a book containing multiple chapters. Earlier it worked only for a single
chapter in a PDF output.
Authors will be able to create TOC within the book and the hyperlinks for these
references will work for all chapters in a stitched PDF, which is an essential part
of any technical publication.
When a book is complete, open the chapter in which Table of Contents has to be
built. Invoke the Lists palette and from ‘Show List For‘ pop up, select the Book
name. Click Update to update list entries for the entire book. Select the text in
which Table of Contents is to be built and click Build.
Enhanced Index support in Book
Publishers can navigate to the index references for all chapters of a book in a
stitched PDF. Earlier it worked for only a single chapter in a PDF output.
Bookmarks support in Book
QuarkXPress lets you generate bookmarks for an entire book. On generating a
single PDF output file from a book, the bookmarks of all the chapters will be
merged. The bookmark hierarchy and bookmark names are retained in the
merged PDF file. The user can double-click on the bookmark in the bookmark
pane to navigate to the page on which the corresponding bookmark is present.
