Preferences — Application — Input Settings

Use the Input Settings pane of the Preferences dialog box (QuarkXPress/Edit

menu) to customize scrolling and other “on-the-fly” actions.

Use the Scrolling area to specify how quickly you can scroll through layouts ●

and how layouts update on screen. (Windows only) Check Live Scroll to

update the layout view as you drag the scroll boxes in layout window scroll

bars. To turn Live Scroll on and off while you are scrolling, press Alt as you

drag a scroll box.

Use the Quotes and Dashes area to substitute straight quotes with Smart ●

Quotes and consecutive dashes with Smart Dashes. When the Smart Quotes

and Smart Dashes boxes are checked, as you are typing straight quotes will

be replaced by the chosen smart quotes preference and consecutive dash

will be replaced by the smart dash.

When importing text, if the Convert Quotes option is checked in the Import Text

dialog, the straight quotes and consecutive dashes will be replaced with the

chosen smart quotes and smart dashes. This substitution will not be dependent
