Auxiliary Dictionarys are saved in .xml format. You will still be able to open
legacy version documents and auxiliary dictionaries created in version 10 or
earlier QuarkXPress 2015 and later versions, but those dictionaries will get
converted to .xml format.
Only one auxiliary dictionary at a time can be open for use with an document. An
auxiliary dictionary remains associated with an document until you click Close
in the Auxiliary Dictionary dialog box or until you open a different auxiliary
dictionary.
Auxiliary dictionaries are saved as separate files on your hard drive. The path to
an document’s auxiliary dictionary is saved with the project, so if you move an
open auxiliary dictionary to another folder or volume, the application will be
unable to find it.
To create or open an auxiliary dictionary without closing the Check Spelling
palette, click Add while a word you want to keep is highlighted.
To add all suspect words to an open auxiliary dictionary, press
Option+Shift/Alt+Shift and click Add All.
Counting words and characters
To display a count of the words and characters in a layout, story or selection
choose an option from the Utilities > Word and Character Count submenu:
Layout or Story or Selection. The Story option will only be available if there is a
story selected.
