TEXT AND TYPOGRAPHY
Different projects might use different versions of the same font.
Installing new applications can make unexpected changes to your fonts.
Replacing damaged or missing fonts and sorting out duplicate fonts wastes
production time.
Font Management in QuarkXPress is classified into 3 sub-
categories:
1. Document Font Loading:
Temporarily activates fonts for a project from a Document Fonts folder and its
sub-folders if it is placed in the same location as the project.
Activate fonts from the Document Fonts folder if the folder name is ‘Fonts’ or its
corresponding localized names only.
Fonts available in the Document Fonts folder will not be treated as missing fonts
if fonts can be read.
Document Fonts will be displayed as a separate group in the font menu.
Document fonts have the highest priority, followed by Application Fonts and
then System fonts which have the last priority during font enumeration. If the
same font family is available in more than one font location: Document fonts,
Application fonts, System fonts; then only those font styles available in the font
folder having the highest priority among them will get enumerated even if the
number of font styles in these folders differ.
If the Document Fonts folder contains the same font but in different font
formats, then the fonts of a single format will be enumerated and the priority
defined for the font formats is in the order- OTF, TTC, TTF, Type1, CID, Bitmap.
If the Document Fonts folder contains a font family having font styles but of
different font formats, then the font styles of a single format will be enumerated
and the priority defined for the font formats is in the order- OTF, TTC, TTF,
Type1, CID, Bitmap.
In Usage dialog, the fonts used in the project will display the correct font path.
On closing a project, the Document Fonts for that project will get deactivated.
Document Fonts of one project will not be available for any other new or
existing project unless the existing project is placed alongside the open project
in the same folder/path.
If more than one project with Document Fonts is opened concurrently, then the
Document Fonts of the project in focus will be activated.
If you copy-paste or drag-n-drop text or text boxes, or thumbnail drag page from
a project opened with Document Fonts to a new project, then the Document
Fonts of the source project will appear missing in the destination project unless
the same fonts are installed in application fonts or in system fonts.
All other functionalities related to Fonts work as earlier.
