To begin building a rule, choose an option in the first column:4.

pply: Use this option to apply formatting to text.

o: Use this option to move to a different point in the text. The rule after a
Go rule is applied beginning at the point where the Go rule stops.
The option you choose in the first column determines which options are
available in the other columns.
If you chose Apply in the first column, choose the paragraph or character style

sheet you want to apply in the second column.
Use the next three columns to indicate which text to style or jump over. Start

with the third column:
Up To: Moves forward and stops immediately before the indicated point.
Through: Moves forward and stops immediately after the indicated point.
Backwards To: Moves backward and stops immediately before the indicated
point.
Backwards Through: Moves backward and stops immediately after the
indicated point.
The option selected in the fifth column controls whether all of these options
are available in this column.
In the fourth column, indicate how many occurrences of the option in the fifth

column to apply to or through.
In the fifth column, choose which entity to jump or format to or through:

Cursor Position: Choose this option to apply a paragraph style sheet to the
current location without moving.
Conditional Style Marker: Choose this option to jump or format to the
next conditional style marker. For more information, see “Conditional style
markers.”
Character: Choose this option to target a particular character, then enter
the character in the next column. If you want to move to or through one of
several characters, enter all of them with no characters between them. For
example, if you enter “abc” here, the application will stop for “a”, “b”, or
“c”.
Number: Choose this option to jump or format to or through the next
occurrence of a number.
Text: Choose this option to target a particular chunk of text, then enter the
target text in the next column.
Number of Characters: Choose this option to format a particular number of
characters.
Number of Words: Choose this option to format a particular number of
words.
Beginning of the Sentence: Choose this option to format backwards to the
beginning of the current sentence.
