Introducing GMRS and the KG-1000G
e General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) is a two way radio service that oers some
powerful benets. Users are allowed to transmit at high power, up to 50 watts, and use
advanced equipment, such as repeaters that enable you to transmit over large areas. e
GMRS requires the user to purchase a license, and a single license covers the user and
their extended family for 10 years.
e KG-1000G was designed to allow you to take advantage of all that GMRS has to
oer and more. Right out of the box this radio is congured to allow you to transmit
on the 15 high powered GMRS simplex channels, as well as the 8 repeater channels.
(Channels 8-14 are only authorized for very low output power and are listen-only.)
NOAA weather mode is available at the touch of a button, as well an an FM radio.
Read this chapter to learn the basics of using your new KG-1000G radio, such as se-
lecting a channel, transmitting and receiving, using the dual display, scanning, and using
frequency mode. Before continuing, be sure your radio is powered on and connected to
an antenna!
