3.6.2 Data Protection
When the cartridge write-protect switch is moved to the left, the drive turns on the
write protect LED immediately. But, if the drive is writing to the tape, write protect
does not take effect until the write completes.
Table 3-3 describes what happens to data protection when you move the write-protect
switch before loading the cartridge.

To the left, the tape is write-protected; the
orange indicator on the cartridge shows
You cannot write data to the tape.
To the right, the tape is write-enabled You can write data to the tape (if it
is not software write-protected).
Table 3-4 describes what happens to data protection when you move the write-protect
switch during operation.
