Voice Mail, Pages, and Text Messages
Setting Up Your Message Center
When you first receive your phone, you will need to contact your Terminal Administrator
for service provider-specific instructions on how to set up your message center, such as
entering a personal greeting and private pass code to retrieve messages. Usually,
messages are retrieved by pressing and holding the 1 key (see “Using the Speed Dial List”
on page 67).
Knowing You Have a Message
Upon receipt of a message, one or all of the following behaviors may occur:

The Text Message or Voice Mail Message icon appears at the top of the screen. If
the icon flashes, the message was sent “priority” or “urgent.”

If audible message alerts are turned on, the phone will beep once when receiving
the message, and may also beep every minute until you acknowledge the message
(see the next section).

If vibratory message alerts are turned on, the phone will vibrate once when receiving
the message, and may also vibrate every minute until you acknowledge the
message (see the next section).

Backlighting is activated for the duration of the current backlighting setting (see “To
Configure the Phone’s Display” on page 79).

For voice mail messages: a message notification appears, which is discussed in
“Retrieving Voice Mail Messages” on page 51.

For text messages: a message notification appears, which is discussed in
“Retrieving Text Messages” on page 52.
To Change the Message Alert
You can modify the alert when a voice mail, page or text message is received by your
phone. Perform the following procedure to change the message alert:

From the Home screen, press the Select ( ) key.

Scroll to the
Messages
tab, and press the Select ( ) key.

From the Messages menu, select
Message Settings
,
Message Alert
.
The Message Alert menu appears.

Scroll to and select one of the following message alert options:
"
None:
no message alert
"
Vibrate Once:
phone vibrates once when receiving a message
"
Vibrate & Remind:
phone vibrates once when receiving a message, and
once every minute until you acknowledge the alert
