Making and Receiving Data Calls
Before starting these procedures, make sure that the data cable (model DXDTA0011) is
attached to the bottom of the phone, and to the 9-pin serial COM port of the computer or
handheld device.
To Set Up the Computers Modem
To set up the modem, first access the Control Panel window (usually via the
Start
,
Settings
,
Control Panel
menu item on the taskbar). Double-click the
Modems
icon. Then
from the Modems tab/window, select
Add
.
While setting up the modem, make sure to select the following options:
!
“Don’t detect my modem; I will select it from a list”
!
“(Standard Modem Types)”, “Standard 19200 Modem”
!
The communications port that the data cable is connected to (e.g., COM1)
The correctly-configured modem has been added to your computer. Now you can set the
data rate for this modem.
To Set the Data Rate for the Modem
To set up the modem, first access the Control Panel window (usually via the
Start
,
Settings
,
Control Panel
menu item on the taskbar). Double-click the
System
icon. Then
from the Hardware tab, select
Device Manager
. Expand the
Modem
option, and then
double-click
Standard 19200 Modem
. From the Modem tab, select
115200
from the
“Maximum speed” list, and then select
OK
.
The data rate has now been set for the modem. You can now create the dial-up
connection.
To Create a Dial-Up Connection
To set up the modem, first access the Control Panel window (usually via the
Start
,
Settings
,
Control Panel
menu item on the taskbar). Double-click the
Network
Connections/Dial-Up Networking
icon. Select the
Connections
,
Make New
Connection
menu item.
Note
If the ‘Clear Data’ Access Control setting is disabled, you will not be able to
make a clear packet data call (see “Viewing Access Control Settings” on
page 22).
Note
To make sure this modem is working properly, you can query it in the
Diagnostics tab.
