Learning about Your Phone
About the Battery
Your phone comes with a standard and slim lithium ion battery, both of which are partially
charged. You should fully charge the battery before using or configuring your phone for
the first time. See “Battery Care and Maintenance” on page 107 for information on
installing, charging, and caring for your phone’s batteries.
Keys
The following table describes the keys on your phone.
Tip

Select key.
Confirms selection of screen key or menu item (see “Navigating
Menus and Screens” on page 15).
Navigation keys.
Moves cursor left, right, up, or down. See “Navigating
Using Navigation Keys” on page 18 for other functions related to these keys.
Send/Talk key.
Makes and answers calls. The length of time that the Send/
Talk key is pressed determines whether a clear or secure call is initiated (see
“Determining Your Phone’s Strapping” on page 21).
Far-field Speaker key.
Turns the far-field speaker on and off (see page 12).
Clear key.
During navigation, pressing the Clear key returns you to the
previous screen. During text editing, pressing the Clear key deletes the
character to the left of the cursor, and pressing and holding the Clear key
deletes an entire line of characters (see “Deleting Characters from a Field” on
page 62). When a call is
not
in progress, pressing and holding the Clear key
for about two seconds activates the auto keyguard feature (see “To Lock/
Unlock the Keypad” on page 78).
Power/End-call key.
Turns phone on or off (see page 11), ends calls (see
“Ending Clear Calls” on page 30 or “Ending Secure Calls” on page 35), or
returns you to the Home screen (see “Returning to the Home Screen” on
page 16).
Keypad keys.
Enters numbers and letters on the screen (see “Entering Text
into an Alphanumeric Field” on page 60).
Push-to-talk key.
The push-to-talk feature is not currently available, but the
Push-to-talk key can be used to answer a call when the Any Key Answer
setting is turned on (see “To Enable “Answering a Call Using Any Key”” on
page 29).
