GUIDELINES FOR
SAFE AND EFFICIENT USE
Important
Read this information before using your Network Interface Unit (NIU).
Local laws and regulations
Wireless telephones can interfere with their environment, so safety rules
and regulations have been created. You should inquire about local
regulations, particularly those concerning vehicles and aircraft, when you
acquire a wireless telephone. If you wish to use your phone while traveling,
you should find out what regulations apply in the state or country you are
visiting.
Background
Your telephone is a radio transmitter and receiver. When it is on, it receives
and sends out radio frequency (RF) energy. When you use your phone, the
system handling your call controls the power level at which your phone
transmits.
Exposure to radio frequency energy
In August 1996, the United States Federal Communications Commissions
(FCC) adopted RF exposure guidelines with safety levels for wireless devices.
Those guidelines are consistent with the safety standards previously set by
both U.S. and international standards bodies:
• ANSI C95.1 (1992) American National Standards Institute
• NCRP Report 86 (1986) National Council on Radiation Protection and
Measurements
• ICNIRP (1996) International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation
Protection
The design of your NIU complies with the FCC requirements and those
standards.
