Making a data call
When making a data call, you must precede each data phone number with
#3282 (#data) in order to cause the network to treat the call as a data
transmission.
Once your modem is connected to the NIU and the communication software
is configured on your computer, you are ready to make a data call.
➤ Open your communication software.
➤ On your computer, type:
➤ Start the software application, e-mail package, or web browser you want
to use.
NOTE
If you are not able to make a data call, read the Troubleshooting section,
page 25.
EXAMPLE
To call the local data phone number 555-1212 dial #3282 555 1212#
Making a fax call
When making a fax call, you must precede your data phone number with
#329 (#fax) in order to cause the network to treat the call as a fax
transmission.
Once the telephone connector on your fax machine is connected to one of
the telephone jacks on the NIU, you are ready to make a fax call.
➤ On your fax machine, dial:
➤ Send your document.
EXAMPLE
To call the local fax phone number 555-1212 dial #329 555 1212#
Receiving a data call or fax call
In order to receive an incoming data or fax call, you must first have the
capability established on the NIU by your service provider. There are various
options for classifying incoming calls as data, fax, or voice. These options
include multiple stage dialing, alternate phone number dialing,
prearrangement, and others. Your service provider may offer one of these.
