Installing the Display Unit Cable
The display unit uses the display unit cable. The display unit cable connects the display unit
to the MAS.
Cable Run
Run direction
In most vehicles, the display unit is mounted in the dash area. The cable is
routed from the front of the vehicle toward the back to the MAS. Leave the coiled end at the
front and route the uncoiled end of the MAS. The 9-pin DSUB connector end of the display
cable requires a 1 1/2" hole.
Routing location
Route the cable internally or externally. In a few vehicles, the display unit
may be installed in the sleeper. Therefore, you usually route the cable internally to this area.
Cable dressing
For strain relief, the base of the coil should be secured with cable wraps.
The strain-relief cable wrap is normally positioned at the point where the cable transitions
from a straight cable to a coiled cable.
Caution
Do not let the connectors lie on the ground unprotected.
1. Inspect the connectors to make sure they are not damaged and the pins are not bent.
Do not attempt to straighten bent pins. This further weakens the pins and results in
cable failure. The following illustration shows good (straight) connector pins and
damaged (bent) connector pins on the SDL connector.
Return a cable with bent pins according to the Return Material Authorization (RMA)
procedure in Appendix C.
