Mount satellite data modems (SDMs) in locations that ensure the unit will receive
uninterrupted and undegraded satellite signals. For more information, refer to
Line-of-
Sight Requirements
on page 5-4.
Install all components in a location where they will not be abused.
Do not mount SDMs on headache racks or exhaust stacks.
Route all cables away from hot or abrasive areas where they might become damaged.
Accessibility
Choose installation locations with future maintenance in mind so that components can be
easily replaced if necessary.
Choose installation locations where components are not likely to be tampered with or
damaged.
Typical Installation Sequence
Every installation is different. Before you begin the installation, you should plan the order in
which you will install the MCP components. The sequence will vary depending on the
situation, but the following is an installation sequence that works well in many situations:
1. SDM/mount (described briefly in Chapter 5). For detailed instructions, see the
Outdoor
Unit Mount Installation Guide
2. Mobile application server (MAS) mounting tray (described in Chapter 8)
3. Display unit holster (described in Chapter 6)
4. Cables (described in Chapter 9)
5. Display unit (described in Chapter 6)
6. Remote control device (RCD) (described in Chapter 7)
7. Accessories (described in specific chapters)
8. MAS (described in Chapter 8)
After you install the MCP components, you will verify that the system works properly using
the instructions in Chapter 10: Basic System Verification.
