What Is the MCP?
The MCP is the mobile part of the OmniVision system that is installed in a customer’s vehicle.
It provides the driver with the ability to exchange messages with the dispatch center. The
MCP also sends vehicle location information to the NMF. The MCP consists of the following
components:
• Satellite data modem (SDM)
—
Contains the antenna that communicates with the satellite.
• Mobile application server (MAS)—This is the communication unit which contains the
operating circuitry and memory for the MCP.
• Media display unit (MDU)
—
The new standard display unit for the OmniVision system,
which the driver uses to communicate with the dispatcher. It consists of a new keyboard
and color TFT LCD display.
• Remote control device (RCD)—Allows the driver to safely listen to incoming messages
without having to stop the vehicle and read the message(s) on the display.
Each MCP has its own unique unit address which is the serial number on the MAS. This
address is used by the NMC to route messages to the correct vehicle. The unit address for a
particular vehicle will change if the MAS in the truck is replaced.
The MCP operator, typically the driver, uses the display unit’s display screens for creating,
sending, and reading messages, system verification, and troubleshooting.
