MDU Basic System Verification Procedure
1. Turn the vehicle ignition ON.
2. Make sure the SDM has a clear view of the satellites. Move the vehicle, if necessary.
The data satellite is located above the equator, roughly south of Texas. The GPS
(positioning) satellites are located above the equator, roughly south of Louisiana.
3. Check the display unit and verify that the screen lights up and displays characters.
If the screen displays characters, go to step 4.
If the screen is dark, turn the backlight on and adjust contrast according to the next
step. If the screen stays dark, perform the diagnostic procedure in Chapter 7 in the
OmniVision™ MCP and Accessory Diagnostic Guide.
4. Check the backlight, contrast, and volume controls on the display unit and verify that
they work correctly.
The BACKLIGHT key turns the display unit backlight on and off.
The CONTRAST key adjusts the contrast of the display window; press the top of this
key to lighten the contrast or the bottom to darken the contrast.
The VOLUME CONTROL key adjusts the volume of the beeper. Press the top of this
key to make the beeps louder or the bottom to make the beeps softer.
If the controls work correctly, go to step 5.
If the controls do not work, replace the display unit and return to step 3.
5. Press the VIEW STATUS key to display the MCP Status screen and check the STATUS
field.
