The GPS Positioning Status screen fields are described as follows.
Field Description
CURRENT
STATUS
Indicates the current operating status of the positioning system. The
following modes are possible:
• ACTIVE is displayed when the MCP has detected that a GPS
receiver is connected.
• NO DATA is displayed if no information has been received since
power up.
• NO FIX is displayed if the receiver is unable to calculate a position.
• GOOD is displayed if the last information received contains valid
positioning data.
LAST UPDATE AT The time of the last valid position. In normal operations when
receiving GPS signals, the MCP should update every second.
LAT The last valid latitude reported. It is displayed in degrees, minutes,
and seconds (DDMMSS). It is saved through power cycles.
LON The last valid longitude reported. It is displayed in degrees, minutes,
and seconds (DDMMSS). It is saved through power cycles.
ALT The last valid altitude reported. It is displayed in meters and is saved
through power cycles.
GPS
DIAGNOSTIC
DATA/
LAST GPS DIAG
UPDATE AT
GPS DIAGNOSTIC DATA: Displays on the first line of diagnostic
data if the unit has
never
received GPS data since it was powered
up.
Otherwise, LAST GPS DIAG UPDATE AT: Displays along with the
time-stamp of the data that is displayed on the screen.
MODE NFX displays if the GPS receiver saw three satellites and was able to
compute a 2-dimensional solution.
DOP Dilution of Precision Values. The values may be displayed for
Position, Horizontal, or Vertical. This is a signal quality value. You
want as low a DOP as possible. A value of 20 or less indicates a
good signal for a 2-D positioning fix.
SV This indicates the ID numbers of the satellites that are in view. A
maximum of four IDs can be displayed. You won’t get a position fix if
only one or two SV IDs are displayed. If four SVs are displayed and
two are not healthy, the position will not be updated and the DOP will
probably be a high number.
RX CNT The number of data sentences (strings of data) received by the unit.
Under normal conditions, the field should increment at a rate of 2 to 5
sentences per second.
