8.1.1.1.1 European Directive 1999/5/EC On Radio Equipment &
Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (R&TTE Directive)
The packet data modem configured with the Qualcomm Inc. supplied
Antenna and RF cabling shall be compliant and approved in accordance with
the essential requirements of the European Community. The supporting
technical standards used to demonstrate compliance are:
EN 300 831 Electromagnetic Compatibility
EN 301 441 (TBR 041) Essential Terminal Requirements
8.1.2 RF Restrictions
The packet modem must be used with the Qualcomm Inc. provided antenna
and no modification to the RF transmit or receive path is permitted in the
form of amplifiers.
Qualcomm Inc. must be consulted before any changes can be made in the RF
path, including cable length deviations from the Qualcomm Inc. provided or
recommended cabling. Failure to do so may result in non compliance with the
Globalstar communications network and Government Radio Regulations.
8.1.2.1 Radio Astronomy Zones
The OEM manufacturer must consult with the Globalstar service provider to
ensure that the location/locations of the installed OEM product do not fall
within local Radio Astronomy exclusion zones.
8.1.2.2 GPS Interference Elimination
The modem antenna must be installed a minimum distance of 30” from a
GPS antenna to ensure compatibility between the two satellite systems.
