E. Before Your First Fire
1. First, make sure your appliance has been properly
installedandthatallsafetyrequirementshavebeenmet.
Payparticularattention to thereprotection, venting
andthermostatinstallationinstructions.
2. Doublecheckthattheashdrawerandreboxareempty!
3. Closethefrontdoor.
G. Starting Your First Fire
1. MakesurethehopperisfullofpelletsandtheON/OFF
switchisintheOFFposition.Plugthereintoapower
socket
2. When powered up the exhaust blower will stay on for
approximately18minuteseventhoughthereisnocall
forheat.Thisisnormal.
3. Locatetheheatoutputcontrolswitchmountedontheback
oftheapplianceintheupperleftcorner(Figure9.1).
4. Turnittothe“high”settingbypushingthetopofthecontrol
switchin.
5. TurnthereonusingtheOn/Offswitch
6. Lookthroughtherearpanelandyouwillseetheredcall
lightonthecontrolboxwillbeon.Thisindicatesthereis
acallforheat.
7. Thefuelfeedsystemandtheignitershouldnowbeon.
8. Foryourrstreitwillbenecessarytopressthereset
buttononceapproximatelytwominutesafterstartupand
againinveminutes.Thiswillllthefeedsystemand
allow the appliance to begin dropping pellets. Or you
canputahandfulofpelletsintherepottospeedupthe
process.Theappliancewillcontinuetorunaslongas
thereisacallforheat.
9. Oncetheappliancehasignited,letitburnforapproximately
15minutes.Forcommissioningtheinstaller/technician
willthenneedtosetthedraftonthere(see“Reference
Materials”onpage30)Youcannowadjusttheheatoutput
controlswitchtothedesiredsetting.

F. Filling the Hopper with Fuel
1. Liftupthehopperlidandlockintoopenposition.Now
youcanllthehopperwithfuel.
2. Donotoverllthehopper.Thelidmustbecompletely
closedtomaintainpropervacuumandforthefeedmotor
tooperate.
3. Thehopperswitchisdesignedtoshutdownthefeed
motorwhenthehopperlidisopen.
4. Donotleaveanypartofthefuelbagontheappliance
afterrellinghopper.
5. Storefuelawayfromtheappliancetomaintainproper
safeairclearancetocombustibles.
2. Heat Output Controls
Thisapplianceisequippedwithaheatoutputcontrol
switchthathasthreesettingsorburnrates;low,medium
andhigh.“Figure9.1”
Therewillstartupandrunonhighfor15minutesto
warmtheueandthenrunastheburnrateforwhichitis
set.Iftheapplianceissetatoneofthelowersettings,it
willrunquieterbuttakelongertoheatupanareathanifit
weresetatahigherburnrate.
NOTE: The tip of the thermocouple must be in contact
with the inside end of the thermocouple cover or missed
ignitions can occur.
