2. Cleaning Firepot with Cleaning Rod & Firepot
Clean-Out Tool

a.Theappliancemustbeincompleteshutdownandcool
andtheexhaustbloweroff.Ifyouarejustcleaningthe
repot,thereisnoneedtounplugtheappliance.
b.PullrepotcleaningrodOUTacoupleoftimestohelp
shakedebrisloose.Ifrodishardtopull,itmaybe
necessary to use your repot clean-out tool to chip
awaymaterialthathasbuiltuponthebottomplateof
therepotandtopushoutanyclinkers.Largerclinkers
mayhavetoberemovedfromthetopoftherepot.
c.The firepot floor plate must be fully closed when
nished.

Locatetheashpan/drawerunderneaththerepot.Open
thebottomashdoorandslidetheashpanstraightout.
Emptyintoanon-combustiblecontainerandre-install
ashpan/drawer.See Disposal of Ashes.
3. Ash Removal from Firebox
• Frequency:Weeklyorevery5bagsormorefre-
quentlydependingonashbuild-up.
• By:Homeowner
a.Theremustnotbeanyhotashesinthereboxduring
cleaning so allow the appliance to completely cool.
The rebox ash should be removed every time the
exhaustpathiscleaned.Frequentcleaningoftheash
inthereboxwillhelpslowdownthebuild-upofash
intheexhaustblowerandventsystem.
b.Plug in your appliance, if unplugged, and turn the
thermostatonandimmediatleyshutitofftostartthe
exhaustbloweronitscycletime.Itwillpullyashout
theexhaustinsteadofintotheroom.
c.Opencasthingedface.Directlyunderneaththerebox
doorandtotheleftandrightoftherepotare2cleaning
slideplateswithngerholes.Pullbothslideplatesout
andthenopentheglassdoor.Sweeptheremaining
ashfromthereboxintothe2openholes.Apaint
brushworkswellforthis.Closeslideplates.
d.Thisashisdepositedinthesameashpanastherepot
debris.Theashpanshouldbeemptiedeverytimeyou
cleantherebox.Remembertoplacetheashand
debrisintoametalornoncombustiblecontainer.
e.The2cleaningslideplatesmustbefullyclosedwhen
cleaningiscomplete.See Disposal of Ashes.

untilallcindershavethoroughlycooled.
5. Disposal of Ashes

Ashes should be placed in a metal container with a
tight-ttinglid.Theclosedcontainerofashesshould
beplacedonanon-combustibleoororontheground,
wellawayfromallcombustiblematerials,pendingnal
disposal.
Iftheashesaredisposedofbyburialinsoilorotherwise
locally dispersed, they should be retained in the
closedcontaineruntilallcindershavebeenthoroughly
cooled.
6. Cleaning Beneath Heat Exchanger
• Frequency:Monthlyorafterburning1tonoffuel
• By:Homeowner
a. Besuretheapplianceisallowedtocool,hasbeen
unpluggedandtheexhaustblowerisoff
b. Amorethoroughcleaningisneededtoremovethe
excess ash that is left behind from the use of the
cleaningrodsfortheheatexchangertubes.
c. Theashwillberestingonthebackofthebafe.This
willrequireremovingthecastbafe.
