4. Cleaning Ash Drawer
• Frequency: As needed
• By: Homeowner
• Task:
Locate the ash drawer underneath the repot. Slide the
ash drawer straight out. Empty into a non-combustible
container and re-install ash drawer. See Disposal of
Ashes.
5. Ash Removal from Firebox
• Frequency: Weekly or as needed
• By: Homeowner
• Task:
There must not be any hot ashes in the rebox during
cleaning so allow the appliance to completely cool.
Frequent cleaning of the ash in the rebox with a vacuum
cleaner will help slow down the build-up of ash in the
exhaust blower and vent system.
Disposal of Ashes
WARNING
Ashes should be placed in metal container
with tight tting lid.
Ashes should be retained in closed container
until all cinders have thoroughly cooled.
6. Disposal of Ashes
• Frequency: As needed
• By: Homeowner
• Task:
Ashes should be placed in a metal container with a
tight- tting lid. The closed container of ashes should
be placed on a non-combustible oor or on the ground,
well away from all combustible materials, pending nal
disposal. If the ashes are disposed of by burial in soil
or otherwise locally dispersed, they should be retained
in the closed container until all cinders have been
thoroughly cooled.
7. Cleaning Heat Exchanger & Drop Tube
• Frequency: Monthly or as needed
• By: Homeowner
• Task:
a. Allow the appliance to completely cool down.
b. It is necessary to remove the baf e to gain access
to the heat exchanger. Follow instructions for baf e
removal on page 29.
c. Vacuum the ash from heat exchanger with an
upholstery brush. Also vacuum the back of the baf e.
Inspect the drop tube and remove any residue build-up
in the drop tube. Figure 27.1
d. Replace the baf e and close the door.

8. Cleaning the Hopper
• Frequency: Monthly or after burning 1 ton of fuel
• By: Homeowner
• Task:
After burning approximately 1 ton of fuel you will need
to clean the hopper to prevent sawdust and/or nes
build-up. A combination of sawdust/ nes and pellets
on the auger reduces the amount of fuel supply to the
repot. This can result in nuisance shutdowns and
mis-starts.
a.. The appliance must be in complete shutdown.
Allow the appliance to completely cool down.
b. Empty the hopper of any remaining pellets.
c. Vacuum the hopper and feed tube.
