E. Fire Characteristics
Aproperlyadjustedrewiththeheatoutputcontrolswitchset
on“high”hasashortactiveamepatternthatextendsoutof
therepotapproximately4to6inches(102to152mm).If
therehastallameswithblacktailsandseemssomewhat
lazy,thefeedratewillneedtobereduced.Thisisdoneby
slidingthefueladjustmentcontrolroddown,whichwillreduce
thefeed.Ifthereisnot4to6inches(102to152mm)tall,
slidethefueladjustmentcontrolroduptoincreasethefeed.
Amediumandlowsettingwillgiveashorterame.Theame
willriseandfallsomewhat.Thisisnormal.

C. Before Your First Fire
1. First, make sure your appliance has been properly
installedandthatallsafetyrequirementshavebeenmet.
Payparticularattentiontothereprotection,ventingand
thermostatinstallationinstructions.
2. Double check that the ash drawer and firebox are
empty!
3. Checkthepositionofthethermocouple,locatedabove
therepot,andmakesurethatitprotrudesapproximately
3/4inch(19mm)intotherepot.
4. Closethefrontdoor.
NOTICE: Thetipofthethermocouplemustbeincontact
with the inside end of the thermocouple cover or missed
ignitionscanoccur.
Thefeedadjustmentcontrolrodisfactoryset,andshould
beadequateformostfuels.
Thesetscrewislocatedatthe
bottom of the hopper and set loose at the factory so the
fueladjustmentcontrolrodwillslideupanddownbyonly
looseningthethumbscrewatthetop.See Figure 24.1. Do
notre-tightenbottomsetscrew.
However,iftheflameheightistoohighortoolow,youwill
needtoadjustthefeedrate.Waituntiltheappliancehasbeen
burningfor15minutesbeforemakingyouradjustmentsand
a
llow15minutesforfeedadjustmenttotakeeffect.

2. Adjustthefueladjustmentcontrolrodtowardsthe"+"
symbol to increase the feed rate and ame height or
towardsthe"-"symbol,todecreasethefeedrateand
ameheight.
3. Re-tightenthethumbscrew.

D. Starting Your First Fire
1. A thermostat is required for proper operation of this
appliance,exceptforcorn.Atthistime,llthehopper
withpellets,setthethermostattoitslowestsetting.Plug
thepowercordintonearbyoutlet.
2. The exhaust blower will stay on for approximately 10
minutes even though the thermostat is not calling for
heat.Thisisnormal.

ocate the heat output control switch mounted on the
upperright corner ofthe right sidepanel. Switchit to
thehighsettingbypushingthetopoftheswitchin,then
adjustthethermostattoitshighestsetting.Theredcall
lightlocated ontheupperrightcorner oftherightside
panelwillbeon.Thisindicatesthethermostatiscalling
forheat.

Thefuelfeedsystemandtheignitershould
now
beon.
5. Foryourrstreitwillbenecessarytopressthereset
buttoneverytwominutesuntilpelletsstarttodropinto
therepot,thenpressbutton1moretime.Thiswillllthe
feedsystemandallowtheappliancetobegindropping
pellets.Theappliancewillcontinuetorunaslongasthe
thermostatiscallingforheat.
6. Once the appliance has ignited, let the it burn for
approximately15minutes,thensetthethermostattothe
desiredroomtemperature.Adjusttheheatoutputcontrol
switchtothedesiredsetting.
