4300 Wood Stove Series (ACC)
A. General Maintenance
Inspection: Inspect the system at the appliance connection
andatthechimneytop.Coolersurfacestendtobuildcreosote
depositsquicker,soitisimportanttocheckthechimneyfrom
thetopaswellasfromthebottom.
Formation and Need For Removal: When wood is burned
slowly,itproducestarandotherorganicvaporswhichcombine
withexpelledmoisturetoformcreosote.
Thecreosotevaporscondenseintherelativelycoolchimneyue
ofanewly-startedoraslow-burningre.Asaresult,creosote
residue accumulates on the ue lining. When ignited, this
creosotecreatesanextremelyhotrewhichmaydamagethe
chimneyorevendestroythehouse.
The chimney connector and chimney should be inspected
onceevery2monthsduringtheheatingseasontodetermine
ifacreosoteorsootbuilduphasoccurred.Ifcreosoteorsoot
hasaccumulated,itshouldberemovedtoreducetheriskofa
chimneyre.
1. Creosote (Chimney) Cleaning
• Frequency: Every2monthsduringheatingseasonor
as recommended by a certied chimney sweep; more
frequently if chimney exceeds or is under 14-16 ft.

Removeallashfromthereboxandextinguishallhotembers
before disposal. Allow the appliance to cool completely.
Disconnectuepipeorremovebafeandceramicblanket
fromappliancebeforecleaningchimney.Otherwiseresidue
can pile up on top of the bafe and ceramic blanket and
theappliance will not work properly. (See Bafe Removal
onpage 36).Closethedoortightly.Thecreosoteorsoot
should be removed with a brush specically designed for
thetypeofchimneyinuse.Cleanoutfallenashesfromthe
rebox.
It is also recommended that before each heating season
theentiresystembeprofessionallyinspected,cleanedand
repairedifnecessary.
a. The stove and ashes must be completely cooled down
beforeusingtheAshRemovalSystem.Reachdownand
locatetheashremovaldoorhandleundertheleftsideof
thestoveinthecenter.Squeezethehandleandpushall
thewayback.Amagnetwillholdthehandleinplacewhich
inturnholdstheashdooropen.
b. Cleanashdownthroughtheashremovalsystemgrateinto
thedrawerbelow.Iftherearelargepiecesintheashes,
youcanremovethegratebeforebrushingtheashintothe
drawer.
MakesureallashisremovedfromthetopofARSdoor.
Liftupthegrateandinspectthetopofthedoortoensure
allashhasbeenremoved.YoucanrapidlymovetheARS
latchhandleupanddowntohelpremoveanyashfromthe
door.Useasmallbrushtocleanoffthetopofthedoorif
anyashremains.
Besuretoreplacethegratebeforeoperatingthestove.
Remembertoleave1/4to1/2inch(6-13mm)ofashon
thereboxoortoactasanaturalgrate,allowingairto
owfreelyunderneathwood.
c. Closethedoorhandle,youwillheara“click”whenitcloses.
Theashdrawerwillnotpulloutifthedoorhandleisleftin
theopenposition.Wear gloves to remove the drawer.
Disposeoftheashesfollowingthedirectionsbelow.
