Setting up
The MDU-40 is a miniature desktop microphone with back-electret capsule,
designed to provide a more direct and higher quality input for voice
recording or streaming via a laptop or desktop computer.
The MDU-40 has a cylindrical metal body and dome grille and is supplied
with a custom desktop stand that fixes to the bottom of the microphone
body. The MDU-40 has a USB type-C socket at the rear and is supplied with
a type-C to type-A lead for connection to a USB port on a Mac or Windows
computer. This provides power to the microphone and delivers the sound
picked up by the capsule as a digital audio signal to the computer.
The computer will recognise the MDU-40 as a “USB PnP Sound Device” in
the sound or audio settings.
Operation
Selecting the MDU-40 (“USB PnP Sound Device”) as the input device within the recording or streaming
software will set the microphone as the input source. An illuminated button on the top of the body will
mute the microphone as required.
The MDU-40 can be disconnected and re-connected to USB as a hot-swappable device.
Disconnect from USB after use to preserve the computer battery or power supply.
