Wireless Point to Point System
WirelessPointtoPoint(WP2P)modulescanbeusedtolinkelectricaldevicestogetherin
situationswherethephysicalseparationorterrainbetweenthemwouldmakedirectwiring
uneconomicorimpractical.
TheWP2Pmodulesincorporatehighspeeddigitalradioswhichhavearangeofuptothree
kilometres.ThemostbasicWP2PsystemcomprisestwoWP2Pmoduleswhichhavebeen
configuredasapair.Themodulessimplyusetheironboardradiostocommunicatetheirinput
statetotheothermodule.
EachWP2P-DIGITALmodulehasthreeswitchinputsandthreerelayoutputs.

TheWP2Pmodulesoperatebycopyingthestateofeachswitchinputtothecorresponding
relayoutputontheotherWP2Pmodule.Whenaswitchinputisclosed,therelayoutputon
theothermodulewillclose,andwhentheswitchisreleased,therelaywillopenagain.

Thedelaybetweenaninputactivatingandthecorrespondingoutputactivatingisnormally
lessthan0.2seconds(seenoteatend).Withsuchafastresponsetime,theWP2Pmodules
canbeusedforflowmeterpulseapplications,allowingpulseratesofupto5pulsesper
secondtobecommunicated.

WP2PmoduleshaveaLinkstatusLEDwhichislocatednexttothepowerconnector.
Thisistoassistwithsitediagnosticsandcheckingbyindicatingthestateofthe
communicationslinkbetweenpairsofWP2Pmodules.
TheLinklightfunctionsasfollows:
• OFF–Modulefailure,nopower,fuseblown,circuitfailure,etc.
• SLOWFLASH–Modulefunctioningbutnocommunicationwithitspartnermodule.
• ON–Healthywirelesscommunications.TheLEDwillbrieflyflickereachtimeit
receivesmessagesfromtheotherWP2Pmodule.
LinkStatusindicatorisbasedonthe“keep-alive”messagetheWP2Pmodulessendifithas
beenlongerthan30secondssincetheylastsentamessage.Thereforeifoneofthemodules
isturnedoff,thenitwilltakenolongerthan30secondsfortheothermoduletodetectthatthe
linkisdownandbeginflashingtheLinkStatusLED.IftheconnectedI/Oischangingmore
frequentlythanonceevery30seconds,thentheydon’tneedtosendkeep-alivemessages.
