Introduction
The EP1 Programming Dongle is used to upgrade the firmware of the Q03 DATRAN
RTUs.
This is a two stage process:
Using the EP1 User Interface PC software to upload the required firmware to
the EP1 Programming Dongle. This procedure is outlined in this quick start
guide.
Using the EP1 Programming Dongle to upgrade the firmware of a Q03
DATRAN RTU. This procedure is outlined in a separate quick start guide.
Software Installation
The EP1 User Interface PC software is supplied on the installation CD.
Run the setup program called:
EP1Dongle_v1_0_Setup.exe
This will install the software in your Program Files folder and create a desktop
shortcut.
USB Driver Installation
Using the supplied USB mini cable, connect the Dongle to the PC.
Within a minute you should see a message bubble displayed in the system tray
saying “Found New Hardware”
In most cases the installation is automatic and a few seconds later you will see a
further message bubble saying “Hardware is installed and ready for use”.
In the case whereby the USB driver is not automatically installed you will be
presented with a dialogue box asking for the location of the USB driver for this
hardware. If this happens you will need to take the following steps:
Cancel and Close the displayed dialogue box.
Unplug the Dongle.
From the CD, run the following program: FTDI_USB_Driver.exe. This displays
a black window as it installs the necessary driver. There is no user interaction
required.
Once the black window has disappeared reconnect the Dongle.
You will now see the “Found New Hardware” message bubble followed by the
“Hardware is installed and ready for use” message bubble.
