16.2.11.1 Detailed Flow
The following flow illustrates the overall process of memory hot-add on QSSC-S4R:
OS Domain

User Domain
Begin
User inserts
memory riser
board in an empty
riser slot
User presses
attention button
The HP controller detects the
Attention Button event and
sends a signal to BIOS
The BIOS enables
power to the riser, and
sets the power LED
blinking.
The BIOS then sets
the Power LED solid
on. The BIOS then
notifies to the OS that
the newly added
memory is ready to
use.
The BIOS
systematically
initializes and adds the
entire memory from
the riser.
OS then invokes ASL
code to trigger hotadd.
BIOS will log SEL to
indicate error.
If this step fails
