Replacing the Main Board
Removing the Main Board
1. Remove the top cover. For instructions, see “Removing the Top Cover” on page 82.
2. Remove the SAS riser. For instructions, see “Removing the SAS Riser” on page 86.
3. Remove all PCIe add-in cards. For instructions, see “Removing a Non-Hot Swap PCIe Card” on page 84 and
“Removing a Hot Swap PCIe Card” on page 58.
4. Remove the I/O riser. For instructions, see “Removing the I/O Riser” on page 92.
5. Remove the chassis mid-brace. For instructions, see “Removing the Chassis Mid-Brace” on page 98.
6. Remove the memory rug. For instructions, see “Removing the Memory Rug” on page 105.
7. Remove all installed processors. For instructions, see “Handling the Intel® Xeon® Processor 7500 Series“
on page 101 and then “Removing a Processor” on page 105. Follow steps 3 through 7 only.
8. Remove the plastic hot swap PCIe dividers.
a. A plastic captive rivet is on the front of the divider assembly. Pull the captive pin up to release it.
See “1” in the following figure.
b. Lift the divider assembly from the server. See “2” in the figure.

9. Disconnect all cables from the main board.
10. Grasp the main board handles and slide the main board forward free of the grounding brackets.
11. Lift the main board up and out of the server.
12. Install a replacement main board. For instructions, see “Installing the Main Board” on page 108.
