This chapter provides information on both the hard disk and Crown-
Copy scanner options which are available for purchase from your
QMS vendor.

Hard disks provide true virtual memory as well as storage for charac-
ter bitmaps, downloaded outline fonts, and other files.

If you purchased your printer with an internal hard disk, to take full
advantage of the disk, you should turn on the printer’s disk swapping
option.
Use the printer control panel to do this. (Information on using the con-
trol panel is in chapter 4, “Printer Configuration,” in the Reference
guide. Choose Yes in the Administration/Memory/Enable Disk Swap
menu.) Disk swapping allows the printer to use the hard disk to
supplement RAM when necessary.
»Note: The printer needs to be turned off and on again to make this
change take effect.
While you’re making changes in the configuration menu, you may also
want to turn on the printer’s page recovery option. (Choose On in the
Administration/Engine/Page Recovery menu.) Page Recovery allows
the printer to automatically track and reprint jammed pages so you
don’t have to resend jobs after clearing a jam.
