2 Turn on both the printer and the PC.
A start-up page should print and Serial RS-232C should be listed
with the interfaces. If it doesn’t, see the “Printer Problem Check-
list” in chapter 6, “Troubleshooting,” of the
Operation
guide.
3 Enable serial communications via the Administration/Com-
munications/Serial/Mode menu from the control panel.
4 Test communication between the printer and the PC.
You can do this by sending a file from one of your applications, or
you can see “Testing Communication” in chapter 6, “Trouble-
shooting,” of the
Operation
guide.

If you're replacing a PostScript printer, you can probably start printing
now with the printing software already in place. Refer to your applica-
tion documentation for instructions on sending documents to the
printer.
However, if you want to be able to use all your printer's special fea-
tures (like collation, 600x600 dpi and 1200x1200 dpi printing), or if
you've never printed to a PostScript printer before, we recommend
you take a few minutes to make sure you have the following printing
software installed:
A PostScript printer driver
Printer description files (if you use QuarkXPress 3.3 or later,
Adobe PageMaker, or Adobe PhotoShop)
