This chapter provides the installation instructions for the optional
duplexer, Stackler, and Model 3100 Stacker. These options are avail-
able for purchase from your QMS vendor. See appendix A, “QMS
Customer Support,” for sales and support information.
»Note:
The printer must have a minimum of 12 MB of RAM to use any
option.

The optional duplexer allows you to print on both sides of the page on
any size media at 300x300 dpi. However, printing duplex via the cas-
sette at 600x600, or 1200x1200 dpi resolutions may require addi-
tional memory. (See the memory tables in chapter 3, the “How Much
Memory Do You Need?” section, of the
Operations
manual for each
resolution/media size memory requirement.
▲ Caution:
Due to the curved path of the duplexer only paper between
17 and 28 lbs should be used. Envelopes, transparencies, and labels
should not be used when duplexing.

This hardware change automatically restores defaults. If
your memory settings are specific for your environment, print an
advanced status page before making this hardware change, so you
can recover these memory settings.
Follow these steps when installing the duplexer.
1 Remove the duplexer from its box, and remove all the pack-
ing materials.
2 Turn off the printer, and remove the power cord.
