HBB Hydronic Baseboard The HBB Hydronic baseboard heater can be wired from either end. Factory permanent connection STEP 1. Choose the end you are bringing power into and remove the junction box cover to expose the wiring. Locate the two wires with the orange wire nut, and the green ground wire. Note: the wires with the white crimped cap are factory sealed, DO NOT remove the cap.
STEP 2: • Remove the orange wire nut from the wires and separate as shown in picture #2. • If wiring this heater to a remote wall thermostat, these two wires will be the connection to that thermostat. • If wiring this heater to a built-in thermostat continue to next slide.
HBB T2 Built-in Thermostat STEP 3 • Locate the two RED wires; these attach to the heater. • Locate the two BLACK wires; these attach to the power supply. • Locate the GREEN ground wire, this attaches to the heater ground and supply ground. To heater To power supply To ground Picture shows a HBBT2 double pole thermostat.
STEP 4 • The field wiring used for this example is a 2 wire w/ ground as you see in most residential applications. If this is used for a 240 volt circuit, then tape the end of the white wire black. This signifies that it is a hot wire.
STEP 5 • Using the two wires from step 2, attach one wire from the heater, to one of the red wires from the thermostat. STEP 6 • Attach the other heater wire from step 2, to the second red thermostat wire.
STEP 7 • Attach the BLACK wire from the field supply to one BLACK wire from the thermostat. STEP 8 • Attach the WHITE supply wire w/ the black tape to the second BLACK wire from the thermostat.
STEP 9 • Attach the GREEN ground wire from the heater, to the GREEN ground wire from the thermostat, to the BARE COPPER ground wire of the power supply. All three ground wires are wire nutted together.
• • STEP 10 Adjust wiring to fit inside the junction box and install the thermostat cover with screw. STEP 11 Adjust the thermostat to the lowest setting and turn the power to the unit ON. Let the unit set for 3 minutes, nothing should happen. Adjust the thermostat to the highest setting, you should notice heat in about a minute. You will possibly notice a slight amount of smoke coming from the unit. This is normal, and will burn off in a short period of time.
