only one server is allowed access to a storage device. Logical Unit Numbers (LUNs)
that are already configured by one server cannot be configured on other servers.
The QLconfig utility contains three software components:
❑ QLconfig Agent. This application is the software that allows you to
configure the QLA2xxx adapters, and their attached devices and LUNs.
You must install this software on the systems that contain the QLA2xxx
adapters. The application includes a copy for Windows NT/Windows 2000
and Novell NetWare.
❑ QLconfig Security. This application allows you to set the password for
access to the agent and to enable/disable device and LUN configuration.
❑ QLconfig Application. The QLconfig application provides the GUI that
enables you to configure the QLA2xxx adapters. You must install the
application on the system where the QLA2xxx adapters reside for local
control or on any system on the same network for remote control.

Features
The QLconfig utility has the following features.
❑ Failover Path. This feature offers an alternate path to a device if the primary
path fails.
❑ Load Balancing. The mechanism that assigns primary and failover paths
from drives to multiple adapters can also improve performance by balancing
the static loading of QLA2xxx adapters by drives.
❑ Device Selection and Masking. This feature assigns the target devices and
LUNs to the QLA2xxx adapters connected to one server or assigns LUNs
to different servers. Masking is supported at both the target level
(configuring or unconfiguring a device) and the LUN level (enabling or
disabling a LUN for the adapter).
❑ Hot Swapping. Hot swapping allows you to make changes to the system
storage without having to reboot the system. LUNs can be added to extend
system capacity. Devices can be hot swapped if one fails.
❑ Secure Device Access. This feature allows single-server control of attached
SAN resources. Resources can be re-assigned from one server to another
as needed.
❑ Heterogeneous Support. This feature allows operation in a cluster or
network with multiple operating system types. The QLconfig utility runs
under Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Novell NetWare.
