Management Suite (QMS).
Table A-1. Frequently Asked Questions
Question Answer
What is the relationship
between QMS and RAID
software?
QMS and RAID software are complementary parts of SAN
software. QMS deals with the adapter board (QLA2xxx);
RAID deals with drives. The failover capabilities of QMS
are separate and complementary to the failover capabilities
of RAID.
With which QLogic
adapter boards does QMS
work?
QMS supports the entire QLogic family of Fibre Channel
boards (see section 2.4). Future QLogic Fibre Channel
products will also be supported. QMS does not support SCSI
products or Fibre Channel products from other
manufacturers.
What CPU architectures
does QMS support?
QMS supports both simple (single processor) and complex
(two-way and four-way) processors.
Do I need QMS for my
QLA2xxx adapter board to
work?
No.
In a Windows NT/Windows 2000 system, the QLA2xxx
adapters require only a miniport driver for basic
functionality. The optional QLdirect adjunct driver provides
higher performance and failover capability. The optional
QL2200IP driver adds IP protocol capability. The QLconfig,
QLview, and QLconfig IP utilities provide setup and
management of the drivers and boards.
In a NetWare server, the QLA2xxx adapters require a Host
Adapter Module (HAM) driver for the QLA2xxx adapter
and a Custom Device Module (CDM) driver for each type
of storage device attached to the QLA2xxx adapter.
What is DMI? DMI stands for Desktop Management Interface, a
standardized management framework created by the
Desktop Management Task Force (DMTF).
How can I tell if DMI is
installed in my system?
In a Windows NT/Windows 2000 system, execute the
“Services” applet in the Control Panel and look for the
service called “Win32sl”.
