Requirements for Copy Services
To get current information about the host system models, operating systems, and
adapters that the ESS supports, see the following Web site:
www.storage.ibm.com/hardsoft/products/ess/supserver.htm
iSeries hardware
The ESS supports the following models and features for the iSeries hosts:
v Models 270, 820, 830, 840
v Fibre-channel features:
– Host adapter feature code 2766
– IBM 3534 Fibre Channel Managed Hub Model 1RU
– IBM Fibre Channel Switch 2109, Model S08/S16 in quick-loop mode only
iSeries software
You must have OS/400 Version 5.1 or higher support installed to connect the ESS
to the iSeries host system.
See iSeries in Storage Area Networks for information about configurations that are
supported for the iSeries host.
Setting up the 3534 Managed Hub
To set up the 3534 Managed Hub, see IBM 3534 SAN Fibre Channel Managed Hub
Installation and Service Guide . See also IBM 3534 SAN Fibre Channel Managed
Hub Users Guide.
Managing the IBM 3534 Managed Hub
To manage the IBM 3534 Managed Hub, you can choose from the following two
methods:
v Telnet commands
v The Managed Hub StorWatch Specialist
Note: You must enable QuickLoop on the IBM 2109 when you attach to an iSeries
host system.
The following lists some general information about connecting the iSeries host
through a hub or switch.
v When you connect to an iSeries host system through a 3534 hub or 2109 switch
in QuickLoop mode, the port on the ESS must be configured to arbitrated-loop
mode. See “Arbitrated loop” on page 14 for more information about arbitrated
loop mode.
v For Version 5 Release 1, the iSeries supports only a homogeneous environment
(only iSeries initiators). You can accomplish this through the use of logical zoning
of the hub or switch. All host systems within an iSeries zone must be iSeries
systems.
v You must configure all ports within the iSeries zone with QuickLoop. This
includes the device (target) port attaching to the ESS.
v Because the iSeries requires the device (target) port to be configured as
QuickLoop, all ports within any zone sharing this device (target) port must be
configured as QuickLoop in order to recognize the ESS on this port.
