Specifications

v See the following Web site for details about the release level for your operating
system:

Either you or an IBM service support representative (SSR) must perform the
following tasks to install and configure an ESS.
1. An IBM SSR installs the ESS by using the procedures in the IBM Enterprise
Storage Server Service Guide.
2. Either you or an IBM SSR defines the fibre-channel host system with the
worldwide port name identifiers. For the list of worldwide port names, see
“Appendix A. Locating the worldwide port name (WWPN)” on page 153.
3. Either you or an IBM SSR defines the fibre-port configuration if you did not do it
during the installation of the ESS or fibre-channel adapters.
Note: Use the information on the logical configuration work sheet in the IBM
Enterprise Storage Server Configuration Planner that you previously filled
out.
4. Either you or an IBM SSR configures the host system for the ESS by using the
instructions in your host system publications.
Note: The IBM Subsystem Device Driver 1.1.3 supports the Hewlett-Packard host
system in a clustering environment. To have failover protection on an open
system, the IBM Subsystem Device Driver requires a minimum of two
fibre-channel adapters. The maximum number of fibre-channel adapters
supported is 16 for a total of 16 fibre-channel ports.
Installing the 2105 host install script file
This section provides the instructions to install the 2105 host install script file from a
compact disc.
Before installing the 2105 host install script file, connect the host system to the
ESS. See “General information about attaching to an open-systems host with SCSI
adapters” on page 7.
Install the 2105 host install script from a compact disc. You must have superuser
authority to complete these instructions.
Notes:
1. You can only install and run the ESS set queue depth program (version
2.7.1.00) on HP-UX operating system 10.01 or later.
2. Use the following formula to set the queue depth for an HP-UX N class or
HP-UX L class:
(queue depth) X (number of LUNs on an adapter) = 256
Note: This limits the number of LUNs on an adapter to 256, but HP-UX
supports up to 1024 LUNs.
3. You must delete and re-create the Hewlett-Packard device types if you use a
SAN Data Gateway on an HP-UX host system to create the LUNs as
fibre-channel devices.
Perform the following steps to install the 2105 host install script from a compact
disc.
