Displaying the ESS volume
The following procedure describes how to display the information about the ESS
volume. You can use this information to identify the volumes attached to an
AlphaServer.
1. Type set mode diag to put the console in diagnostic mode.
2. Type wwidmgr -show wwid
Figure 20 shows an example of information about the ESS volumes that you can
see at the AlphaServer console. This format is also used in the Tru64 UNIX.
Note that the UDID for each volume appears as -1, signifying that the UDID is
undefined. With the supported ESS LIC, all UDIDs for ESS volumes are undefined.
The underscore in Figure 21 highlights the hex string that identifies an ESS volume
that is attached to an AlphaServer.
The third and fourth quartet of the UDID number is always the value “4942-4d20”.
This is the string IBM in hex and represents an ESS volume.
The underscore in Figure 22 highlights an example of a hex string that identifies the
decimal volume number of the ESS volume. The first three characters of the next to
last quartet of numbers is the hex string representation. Figure 22 shows that the
ESS volume number is decimal 282.
Figure 23 on page 33 shows a hex representation of the last 5 characters of the
ESS volume serial number.
