Supported switches
IBM supports the following switches:
v IBM 2109 Model S08 and S16
v Corresponding Brocade and Compaq switches
– FW 2.1.7 or later
– FC-SW mode
Cascaded switches are supported in configurations up to a maximum of 8 switches
with a maximum of 3 inter-switch hops for any path. IBM recommends two hops for
normal operation with the third hop reserved for backup paths.
Installing the KGPSA-CA or KGPSA-BC adapter card
The following procedures describe how to install the KGPSA-CA or KGPSA-BC
adapter card.
1. Shut down the Compaq AlphaServer host system.
2. Install the KGPSA-CA or KGPSA-CA host bus adapters.
3. Restart the host (non-clustered configurations) or each cluster member
(clustered configurations).
4. Bring each host system to a halt condition at the console level.
5. If required by the host, type set mode diag at the Compaq AlphaServer console
to place the console in diagnostic mode.
6. Type wwidmgr-show adapter to confirm that you installed each adapter properly.
7. If necessary, update the adapter firmware.
See Figure 18 on page 30 for an example of what displays when you type set mode
diag and wwidmgr -show adapter.
