Specifications

Figure 16 shows an example of commands you can use to configure storage.
Attaching with fibre-channel adapters
This section describes the host system requirements and provides the procedure to
attach an ESS to a Compaq AlphaServer with fibre-channel adapters. This section
also describes how to attach a clustered Compaq AlphaServer Tru64 host system
with level 5.0a and 5.1 of the operating system with fibre-channel switched (FC-SW)
or direct connect (FC-AL) protocols on optical fiber media.
Note: You do not need the IBM Subsystem Device Driver because the Tru64 UNIX
manages multipathing.
For information about adapters you can use to attach the ESS to the Compaq host
and the Compaq AlphaServer models, see the following Web site:
www.storage.ibm.com/hardsoft/products/ess/supserver.htm
Attachment requirements
This section lists the requirements to attach the ESS to your host system.
v Ensure that you have all of the items listed in the equipment list in IBM
TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server Introduction and Planning Guide.
v Ensure that you have the documentation for your host system and the IBM
Enterprise Storage Server Users Guide. The User’s Guide is on the compact
disc that you receive with the ESS.
v Check the logical unit number (LUN) limitations for your host system. See Table 6
on page 11.
v See the following Web site for details about the release level for your operating
system:
www.storage.ibm.com/hardsoft/products/ess/supserver.htm
Either you or an IBM service support representative (SSR) must perform the
following tasks to install and configure an IBM ESS.
1. An IBM SSR installs the IBM Enterprise Storage Server by using the procedures
in the IBM Enterprise Storage Server Service Guide.
2. Either you or an IBM SSR assigns the fibre-channel hosts to the fibre-channel
ports on the ESS.
