Handling electrostatic discharge-sensitive components
The IBM service support representative must observe the following precautions
when handling disk drive modules and other parts to avoid causing damage from
electrostatic discharge (ESD):
1. Keep the ESD-sensitive part in its original shipping container until you install the
part in the machine.
2. Before you touch the ESD-sensitive part, discharge any static electricity in your
body by touching the metal frame of the machine. Keep one hand on the frame
when you install or exchange an ESD-sensitive part.
3. Hold the ESD-sensitive part by the plastic enclosure or the locking handles. Do
not touch any connectors or electronic components.
4. When you hold the ESD-sensitive part, move as little as possible to prevent an
increase of static electricity from clothing fibers, carpet fibers, and furniture.
Checking the attachment
Ensure that your installation meets the following requirements:
1. One or two ESSs and no other I/O devices are attached to each SCSI interface
card.
2. Cables are connected correctly and are seated properly.
Solving attachment problems
If errors occur during the attachment procedure, the conditions listed below might
be what is causing the problem:
1. Your host system has an incorrect SCSI ID.
You or the service support representative can check the SCSI ID by using the
service interface terminal.
2. The root file system is not large enough to add another device.
You can increase the size of the root file system.
If a problem persists, contact your service provider.
