2. Reset your host system or execute the appropriate command to initiate device
discovery.
Nonconcurrent migration
This section tells you how to migrate disks using a nonconcurrent method. Other
host systems attached to the same ESS can continue their work while this
procedure is performed.
Note: The migration procedures in this chapter have been tested successfully.
However, there are other ways you can migrate disks to fibre-channel.
The procedures are valid if the following assumptions are true:
v Your host system has disks that are located on an ESS that is in use. They are
attached to the host system with one SCSI interface.
v The host system has one or more fibre-channel adapters installed.
v The ESS has a fibre-channel adapter, feature code 3022, installed and the
interconnections between the host system and the adapter have been
established.
v All appropriate software prerequisites, drivers, and program temporary fixes have
been implemented.
Migrating from native SCSI to fibre-channel
The following procedure outlines the tasks involved in performing a nonconcurrent
migration from native SCSI to fibre-channel attachment.
1. Stop the applications that are using the disks.
2. Perform all operating system actions required to free the disks. For example,
a. Unmount file systems.
b. Vary off the volume group.
c. Export the volume group.
3. Unassign the disks using the ESS Specialist.
This step makes the volumes inaccessible from the host system. The disks are
still available inside the ESS and the data on these volumes is also retained.
4. Use the ESS Specialist to assign these disks to fibre-channel.
5. Perform the following steps to make the volumes usable by the operating
system:
a. Restart the host system.
b. Import the volume group.
c. Mount the file system.
Migrating on a Hewlett-Packard host
Perform the following steps to migrate from SCSI to fibre-channel on a
Hewlett-Packard host system.
1. Shutdown databases or applications that use the disks that you are migrating.
2. Unmount the file systems. (unmount <file system>) with the System
Administration Menu utilities.
3. Use the ESS Specialist to identify all the disks on the ESS that are assigned to
the affected volume group.
4. Deactivate the volume group using the sequential access method (SAM).
