Attaching an ESS to a Windows 2000 host system
This section describes how to attach a Windows 2000 host system to an ESS with
the following adapter cards:
v Adaptec AHA-2944UW
v Symbios 8751D
v QLogic QLA1041
Installing and configuring the Adaptec AHA-2944UW adapter card
Note: The steps to install and configure adapter cards are examples. Your
configuration might be different.
Perform the following steps to install and configure the Adaptec AHA-2944UW
adapter card:
1. Install the Adaptec AHA-2944UW in the server.
2. Connect the cable to the ESS port.
3. Start the server.
4. Press Ctrl+A to get to the SCSISelect menu and the list of adapter cards to
configure.
5. From the SCSISelect menu, select Configure/View Host Adapter Settings.
v Set the parameters on the Configure/View Host Adapter Settings panel as
follows:
Host Adapter SCSI ID: 7
SCSI Parity Checking: Enabled
Host Adapter SCSI Termination: Automatic
6. Select SCSI Device Configuration
v Set the parameters on the SCSI Device Configuration panel as follows:
Sync Transfer Rate (megabytes per second): 40.0
Initiate Wide Negotiation: Yes
Enable Disconnection: Yes
Send Start Unit Command: No
Enable Write Back Cache: No
BIOs Multiple LUN Support: Yes
Include in BIOS Scan: Yes
7. Select Advanced Configuration Options
v Set the parameters on the Advanced Configuration Options panel as follows:
Reset SCSI BIOS at IC Int Enabled
Display Ctrl+A Message During BIOS: Enabled
Extend BIOS translation for DOS drives>1GB:Enabled
Verbose or Silent Mode: Verbose
Host Adapter BIOS: Disabled:scan bus
Support Removable Disks under Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) as
fixed disks: Disabled
BIOS support for bootable CD-ROM: Disabled
BIOS support for INT 13 extensions: Enabled
8. Save the changes and select SCSISelect again to verify that you saved the
changes.
