configuration. You can retrieve and use it in different ways depending on the type of
host bus adapter. The following instructions tell you how to modify the value safely
in either the Windows NT registry or in the device adapter parameters.
Setting the TimeOutValue registry
Perform the following steps to set the timeout value registry:
1. From the Run menu or command prompt, type:
Regedt32.exe
2. Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Disk
3. Look for the value called TimeOutValue. If the value called TimeOutValue does
not exist, go to step 3a. If the TimeOutValue exists, go to step 4.
a. Click Edit Add Value...
b. For ValueName, click TimeOutValue
c. For data type, click REG_DWORD
d. Click OK.
e. For data, click f0.
f. For radix, click Hex .
g. Click OK.
4. If the value exists and is less than 0x000000f0 (240 decimal), perform the
following steps to increase it to 0xf0.
a. Click TimeOutValue.
b. Click Edit DWORD....
c. For data, click f0.
d. For radix, click hex.
e. Click OK.
5. Exit the Regedt32 program.
6. Restart your Windows NT server for the changes to take effect.
Verifying the host system is configured for storage
Perform the following steps to determine whether or not your Windows NT 4.0 host
system is configured for storage:
1. Partition the new drives using Disk Administrator.
2. From the Windows NT desktop, right click Start.
3. Click Explore and verify that you can see the fibre-channel drives.
4. Select a large file (for example,a9MBfile), and drag (copy) it to a
fibre-channel drive.
Performing a FlashCopy from one volume to another volume
Perform the following steps to perform a FlashCopy from one Windows NT 4.0
volume to another volume. Before you perform the steps, you must log on with
administrator authority. The following steps assume you are performing the steps
from the host with the FlashCopy target:
1. From the task bar, click Start Programs Administrative Tools Disk
Administrator.
2. The Disk Administrator error message window opens. Click OK.
