Glossary-2 ISR654606-00 A
field replaceable unit
See FRU.
FRU
Field replaceable unit. Component that
can be replaced in the field upon failure.
graphical user interface.
See GUI.
GUI
Graphical user interface. A user interface
that is based upon icons and visual
relationships rather than text.
HA
High availability. A system or device that
operates continuously for a long length of
time.
high availability
See HA.
I/O
Input/output. Collection of interfaces that
different functional units of a system use to
communicate with each other.
input/output
See I/O.
iSCSI
Internet small computer system interface.
Transmits native SCSI over the TCP/IP
stack. In a system supporting iSCSI, a
user or software application issues a
command to store or retrieve data on a
SCSI storage device. The request is
processed by the operating system and is
converted to one or more SCSI commands
that are then passed to software or to a
card. The command and data are encap-
sulated by representing them as a serial
string of bytes proceeded by iSCSI
headers. The encapsulated data is then
passed to a TCP/IP layer that breaks it into
packets suitable for transfer over the
network. If required, the encapsulated data
can also be encrypted for transfer over an
insecure network.
logical unit number
See LUN.
LUN
Logical unit number. Representation of a
logical address on a peripheral device or
array of devices.
mpx200
The MPX200 offers simultaneous iSCSI
and Fibre Channel support with 10GbE,
1GbE, and 8Gb/s Fibre Channel
technology, providing modular
multi-protocol SAN designs with increased
scalability, stability, ROI and simpler to
manage, secure storage solution for virtu-
alized server environments.
MPX 200’s enterprise-class high-avail-
ability design provides dual hot-plug power
supplies and router blades for no single
point of failure. MPX200 integrated in
same rack allows customers to connect up
to 4 EVA to a single MPX200 reducing the
complexity and cost of iSCSI connectivity
to EVA storage arrays
multipath routing
The routing technique of leveraging
multiple alternative paths through a
network, which can yield a variety of
benefits such as fault tolerance, increased
bandwidth, or improved security.
