Chapter 4 Virtual Desktop Deployment
To create a virtual machine template in vCenter
1Poweroffthevirtualmachine.
2Right‐clickthepreviouslyconfiguredguestsystemandselectoneofthefollowing
options:
ClonetoTemplate—Selectthisoptionifyouwanttousetheselectedguest
systemasthebasisforanewtemplatewithoutalteringthevirtualmachine
itself.Ifyouselectthisoptionyouarepresentedwithasetupwizardthat asks
youtoprovidethenameofthetemplate,environmental
informationabout
whereyouwantthetemplatetoreside,andthediskformattouse.
ConverttoTemplate—selectthisoptionifyouwanttochangetheguest
systemintoatemplate.Thisprocessisinstant.
Customization Specifications
Customizationspecificationsareoptional,buttheycangreatlyexpediteautomated
desktoppooldeploymentsbyprovidingconfigurationinformationforsuchgeneral
propertiesaslicensing,domainattachment,andDHCPsettings.
To create a customization specification
1InvCenterServer,clickEdit>CustomizationSpecifications.
2ClickNewtocreateanewCustomizationSpecification.
3EnsurethatWindowsisselectedinthe
TargetVirtualMachineOSdropdown
menu,andprovideanameandan(optional)descriptionforthecustomization
specificationinthefieldsprovided.ClickNext.
4EntertheNameandOrganizationyouwouldlikeassociatedwiththedesktops
createdintheautomatedpoolinthefieldsprovided.ClickNexttocontinue.
5 Select
oneofthefollowing:
Usethevirtualmachinenameifyouwantthedesktopsinthepooltoderive
theirnamefromthenameassignedtoeachdesktopvirtualmachineduring
deploymentfromViewManager.Thisistherecommendedoption.
Useaspecificnameifyouwanteachdesktoptoderivetheirnamefroma
predefinedlabel.Ifyouchoosethisoption,itisrecommendedthatyoualso
selectAppendanumericvaluetoensureuniqueness.
ClickNext.
6EnterthelicensenumberfortheViewManagerdesktopoperatingsysteminthe
ProductIDfield,andspecifyifthisisasingleormultipleseatlicense.ClickNext.
