Offline Desktop Licensing and vCenter Server Access
TheavailabilityoftheOfflineDesktopfeatureisdeterminedbyyourViewConnection
Serverlicensetype.Inordertousetheadministrativeandclientcomponentsassociated
withOfflineDesktop,yourlicensemustincludethisfeatureaspartofitscoverage.
DesktopscanonlybecheckedoutfromvCenterServerifthe
vCenterServeruser
specifiedinViewManagerisanadministrator.EnsurethatthevCenterServeruserhas
administrativerightsbeforeattemptingtouseOfflineDesktop.
Storage, Communications, and Security
Thetimetakenforaninitialdesktopcheckoutwillbelongerthansubsequentcheckin
andcheckoutactionsasanentirevirtualmachineclonemustfirstbedownloadedonto
theclientsystem.Thereafter,incrementalchangesarecommunicatedbetweenthe
serverandtheclientasdifferencesbetweenthetwosystems,
andthisinvolvesthe
transferofamuchsmallervolumeofdata.

desktoplocally,evenintheabsenceofanetworkconnection.
Theonlineequivalentisshutdownandlockedinordertopreventaccessor
modification.
Whileworkinglocally,userscanbackuptheirdatatotheserveratanytime.
3Whentheuserchecksthe
virtualmachinebackintotheserver,theonlinedatais
updatedandtheserverlockisreleased.SubsequentViewClientwithOfflineDesktop
connectionswillbedirectedtotheonlinedesktopuntilthevirtualmachineischecked
outoncemore.
